2019 Speakers:

Angela is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies, an associate director of the Centre for Aerial Robotics Research and Education at U of T, and an instructor of Udacity’s flying-car nanodegree program. She conducts research at the interface of robotics, controls, and machine learning. Her goal is to enhance the performance, safety, and autonomy of robots by enabling them to learn from past experiments and from each other.

 

Ania Halliop is a Director of Engineering at FreshBooks where she leads data engineering and software development teams. She has management experience from a wide range of high-tech companies, ranging from small start-ups to large enterprises. She also helps run a local meetup that focuses on providing opportunities and mentorship to new speakers to bring more diversity to our tech community in Toronto.

 

Ideshini Naidoo is the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Wave where she leads a team of over 80 engineers. Her background spans a wealth of experience at an executive level in international banking and telecommunications bringing a depth of knowledge in technology and information systems within the Fintech space.

 

  • Karney Li, VP of Engineering and Site-Lead of Instacart North

Prior to joining Instacart, Karney was the CTO at Wealthsimple where he grew the engineering org and built Canada’s largest robo-advisor. Karney also spent 10 years at Amazon as a developer and engineering manager where he designed many of the systems that power Kindle, Prime, Supply Chain and Fulfillment Technologies allowing Amazon to scale the way it does today.

 

Margaret Syms is a Senior Security Engineering Manager at Shopify leading a team of security analysts and software developers in the areas of security compliance, advisory and privacy engineering. She is passionate about helping technology companies embed security and compliance practices into engineering teams in a way that supports speed of execution and start up culture.
